Matt Kuchar wins the Memorial at Muirfield Village

Matt Kuchar put on a virtual exhibition Sunday at Muirfield Village, closing out his round with a birdie at the final hole to secure his second victory of the 2013 PGA tour season.  This win was his sixth career PGA tour victory.

“Having a multiple-win season is nice to be able to check that one off the list.” – M. Kuchar

One of the stats that lead to Kuchar’s victory at the Memorial Tournament was his Greens in Regulation (GIR) where he lead the field, hitting 75% the greens in regulation.  On Sunday he didn’t miss a fairway until the 17th hole while finding all but two greens in regulation.  Kuchar (aka Kooch) ended the week ranked first in the distance of putts he made and second in strokes gained-putting.

After sinking his putt on 18, Kuchar celebrated by sticking his right fist into the air just as the tournament host, Jack Nicklaus, was high-fiving the winner’s two young sons in perfect symmetry – awesome.

Kuchar also got some special advice from the major-maestro himself.  Nicklaus, the owner of a record 18 major championships, suggested Kuchar visit Merion next week to get rid of the nerves and find a comfort zone with the course that hasn’t hosted a U.S. Open since 1981.  Well, consider it done.  Kuchar now says he’ll head to Merion on Monday to prepare U.S. Open.

Well… ‘Kooch’ is on his way to his next Major and so are we.  Check back with us as we report from the site of this year’s U.S. Open – Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Pa.
