Michael Thompson Wins Honda Classic

Michael Thompson was one of only five golfers who shot an under par round Sunday to win his first PGA Tour event at the Honda Classic.

Thompson gained control of the leader board on the third hole with a great 50 foot eagle putt.  On the back nine he had a few great par saves to keep him in the lead.  On the last hole Thompson made a birdie from the bunker to give him a final score of 69 which at PGA National is 1 under par.  That gave him a two stroke win over Geoff Ogilvy.

Michael Thompson at just 27 years old already is in the Masters from being a runner-up at the U.S. Open.  This win just solidified his spot in the 2013 Masters.

Ogilvy who golfed a great tournament birdied two of his last three holes for a 69 to finish second place.  That moves him into the top 50 on the Fedex Tour and gets him into the World Golf Championship next week at Doral.

Geoff Ogilvy finished in second place at 7-under, followed by Luke Guthrie who is going to be a rookie to keep an eye on, in third at 5-under.

Final Leaderboard

Naturally we have to keep you informed on where Tiger is.  It wasn’t a bad tournament for him but for all intents and purposes Tiger Woods never was a factor in the final round he shot a 4-over 74 and finished the tournament in a tie for 37th place.
